ForeverMusick: FM Reviews Kelly Rowland "Here I Am"

HereIAm ForeverMusick: FM Reviews// Kelly Rowland "Here I Am"

Back in 2009 Kelly Rowland teamed up with French DJ David Guetta and they released the summer club smash "When Love Takes Over". The call went number 1 worldwide and Kelly got dance fever. Kelly teamed up with Guetta again for her first one from her then untitled third studio album "Commander". The call went to act 1 in various countries.

While the call was even a smash in the UK it fizzled out in the US and Kelly`s fanbase wanted more urban and R&B songs from her, so she dropped "Grown Woman" and "Rose Colored Glasses", both songs didn`t even crack the Billboard Top 50 in the US. "Forever And A Day" was Kelly`s next one and in the UK it didn`t make the top 30. People were wondering if Kelly would ever turn a third single. She had encountered numerous pushbacks and had rather a few leaks over the Internet.

Now it is 2011, the class of the comebacks and boy has Kelly made a comeback! Her Urban smash "Motivation" has been number 1 on the US Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts for several weeks. And she is already getting rave reviews about her second single "Lay It On Me". The accuracy of the subject is that Kelly`s single`s this era have reached total one but her former band mate Beyonce has failed to get a number 1 with both her singles (sorry but it is true).

Kelly is finally getting her opportunity to shine, her new album "Here I Am" drops in stores on July the 26th and later the part below is a dog by track review.

1. I`m Dat Chick

This song leaked a spell ago and I am SO happy she included it. You`d remember that mass would be cast off all these female empowerment anthems but this trail is far from. The Ester Dean penned track is a definite fist pumper. It`s an urban track with an electro beat and Kelly sounds faultless singing over the track. However the only trouble is that mass may say it is like Beyonce`s "Diva" Part 2, but Kelly stands on her own and delivers a square opening track. 4/5

2. Work It Man (feat Lil` Playy)

Here we hear Ms Rowland sing about what kinda man she wants, so guys take notes. The tail is a mid tempo urban track. The Darkchild produced track starts off with a piano riff before crashing into a speaker rattling banger. The jam is like to "Motivation" with a big R&B feel to it. Only bad thing around the call is Lil` Playy. I have never heard of him and after hearing his rap on this I won`t look ahead to any more of his work. TI or perhaps even Rick Ross would have been better. 3.5/5

3. Motivation (feat Lil` Wayne)

When Kelly first dropped this, people said it would flop because it is too easy and was very dissimilar to what she had released previously (for example "Commander"). But they were wrong. The Jim Jonson produced track oozes sex and Kelly`s sultry vocals are hot. The strain is pretty much pure sex. After each spin the call just gets sexier. The picture for this call is hot too and that helps. Lil` Wayne doesn`t add much to the song nor does he do it worse in my opinion. 4/5

4. Lay It On Me (feat. Big Sean)

Four tracks in and you can already distinguish the way of the album. Kelly is doing straight up R&B sultry jams, showing she is big and sexy and "Lay It On Me" follows that trend. The track perfectly straddles the wall between pop and R&B with its breezy piano synths, hand claps and thumping bass. Kelly`s voice is clean and controlled, handling the tight melodic curves of the cover with simplicity while pleading with her man to get "put it down". With any other singer the call would sound generic, but Kelly avoids that with her unassuming yet direct delivery. Pure sex, again! 4.5/5

5. Feelin` Me Right Now

This piano driven mid tempo needs to be the following single. Kelly realises that she is better than the men in the order and realises herself worth. It`s not too fast but it`s not too slow. It is a nice slow jam that will make people grooving away all dark and asserting their independence, just like Kelly does. 4/5

6. Turn It Up

This synth-heavy number produced by Rodney Jerkins sees Kelly buys a circle of shots and turns it up in the club. Instead of spreading out a formerlover, she decides to drink away her frustrations and allow karma to cover the situation. If you thought Kelly forgot her new found dance shoes this track reminds what sort of versatile singer Kelly is. 4/5

7. All Of The Night (feat. Rico Love)

Kelly goes backward to the sex tracks with Rico on this steamy jam. Kelly compares her bedroom activities to music. This course will get people in the climate for days to come. Turn this strain on, dim the lights near the doorway and let Kelly be your "Need" for "All Of The Night" 3.5/5

8. Keep It Between Us

It was pure genius putting "Keep It Between Us" after "All Of The Dark" they hang so perfectly. Kelly again sounds flawless on the slow jam which she has said is her favourite from the album. The vocals don`t sound forced or anything and it all seems natural. The strain is only beautiful and in a way it reminds me of Beyonce`s "1 1". The restraint of the song and production really showcase Kelly`s vocals and just remind us that she is actually a keen singer. 4/5

9. Commander (feat David Guetta)

Kelly leaves the chamber and makes an appearance back on the dance floor for this track. Rowland and Guetta are decidedly a deadly combination and it always works. The cross has a pounding electro-house chorus that quite literally orders people to the dance floor. Kelly belts out soaring vocals and it firmly puts her in restraint of the dance floor. The call will not die out anytime soon but I wonder, why did it take the last cut of the US album? It is like Beyonce putting "Run The Earth" on her album, the song does not fit the way off the album and is a bit off a curveball. All in all the strain is only proof that Kelly owns the dance floor. 4/5

10. Down For Whatever (feat. The WAV.s)

Kelly doesn`t mean to give the dance floor anytime soon with this fist pumping beat. It is obvious that the strain is a RedOne produced track. Kelly sings about doing whatever her lover wishes. As with the balance of the album she sounds flawless. However the call is not as well as "Commander" and it kinda leaves you wanting more from the album. The DJ`s will enjoy this track but for me the only dance track this album needed was "Commander". The dog is yet hot though. 3.5/5

11. Heaven And Earth

The Ne-Yo and Stargate produced track is another slow jam and another lot of flawless vocals. Kelly sings about finding her worth, she realises she is better than the guy in the relationship. So she leaves him. This is a shift up song, but not to the same extent as Rihanna`s "Take A Bow" or Beyonce`s "Best Thing I Never Had", this one seems happier than those two. It is beautifully written and produced though. However for me it is lacking certain "oomph". 3.3/5

12. Each Other

This song leaked a while back and I am surprised it is on the album. It is a mid tempo track with a killer, fist pumping, clapping beat. Kelly wants a guy in the order and she will get him. The strain has a tricky and infectious beat. Kelly sings in a seductive tone and as with the remainder of the album she sounds good. The strain has an air of mystery about and is full off seduction. You can well imagine a slowed down urban remix to this strain as it follows the idea of about of the other album. 3.5/5

Not going to survey the remixes but the "Commander" remix with Nelly is about as well as the original!

Kelly is finally getting her bit to reflect and she has grabbed it with both men and is certainly not going to let it go anytime soon! After numerous push backs and singles Kelly is shining just like she deserves too. Vocally on this album she has sounded as well as always and it is proof that she has grown not merely as an artist but as an individual. This album really showcases her talents as a vocalist and growth wise we can say that she is no longer that little individual singing background in Destiny`s Child.

If this album was released at the end of last year like it was meant too I remember it would have flopped harder than "Bionic". But after hearing to it there are some great tracks on here and it is plain that Kelly has taken time to run on this album and it pays off. Most people are saying it will collapse because of the want of promotion, but "Motivation" had little promo and it`s still number one and it`s climb up the Billboard charts. This is a really strong cause and I can`t expect to see what the UK version of the album will go like.

Overall: 3.8/5

Will you be buying "Here I Am"?
